What is a scavenger hunt?

A scavenger hunt is basically just a list of tasks that teams perform. Each task is worth points and the team with the most points wins. In our hunts the main task types are answering questions, taking photos and visiting checkpoints. There are other task types available too. The value that we provide is ensuring that there are a perfect number of tasks and that these tasks are engaging for an intelligent adult audience.

How is that different from a treasure hunt?

A treasure hunt has a pre-set route that teams follow. It is a race to the finish. Usually there are puzzles of some kind that reveal subsequent destinations. In this format teams will all arrive at the finish location at different times. Plus it tends to favour more the more physically-fit. That is why we have always preferred the scavenger hunt format.

Is it like the Amazing Race?

The Amazing Race is a treasure hunt – essentially a series of checkpoints. Our program is not a race to the finish as we want it to be fair. However, our Standard and Enhanced programs include checkpoints and we have had people say that our events feel like the Amazing Race.

Can we use smartphones?

Yes! Our hunts are done using your participants’ smartphones. This makes the hunt have a cool high-tech feel. Plus, by using smartphones, the photos are downloadable by you after the event. It is still possible to have a hunt done with pen & paper, but most groups do not choose this option.

How long does a scavenger hunt last?

Two-and-a-half hours is the recommended time. Sometimes less for small locations like resorts or small towns. However, our hunts are designed to be flexible. Any duration is possible, but 1.5 – 4 hours is the usual range.

How much work is it to organize?

We have designed our system to minimize the planning time required at your end. You pick the date and the start and finish locations. You allocate your participants to teams of about 5-6 people. You pay your invoice. We do the rest!

How far in advance do we need to book?

Please give us as much advance notice as you can. Generally we can plan an event in just a few days though.

Are Scavenger Hunt Anywhere’s staff sourced locally?

Yes, we plan our events centrally but execute them locally. This means for our Standard and Enhanced packages our facilitator will be from your location.

Where does it start and where does it finish?

Your start and finish locations are up to you. Since there is no specific route that teams follow, as long as you start and finish within the hunt area, you will be fine. Our planning staff will help with this if you need.

What if it rains?

Check the weather forecast before your event and dress accordingly. Hunts will run well in any weather. Just be prepared. It is much easier to bring a raincoat or umbrella then to reschedule your scavenger hunt.

Is it a lot of walking?

It depends. Because there are so many tasks to accomplish, teams can be strategic and choose their route. They may choose not to complete tasks that require more walking, choosing instead to focus on tasks like photos that can be done with less walking.
